Sauna and Heat Recovery Session for HYROX
A structured heat protocol rather than a vague sit in a hot room: three bouts with cooling breaks, placed after training rather than before it. Used consistently, heat exposure also improves plasma volume, which is a genuine performance effect and not just a comfort one.
HYROX Race Week Taper Workout
The session for three or four days out: short, sharp contacts with race-pace effort and almost no volume. It keeps the nervous system switched on without adding a gram of fatigue you will still be carrying on Saturday.
Stations: Wall balls · Burpee broad jumps · SkiErg
Yoga for HYROX: Mobility and Recovery Session
Thirty minutes targeting the four areas HYROX training reliably shortens: hip flexors from the sled and lunges, ankles from the running, thoracic spine from the ski, and hamstrings from everything. Hold positions long enough to actually change something.
Stations: Sandbag lunges · Wall balls
About this category
You cannot gain fitness in race week, but you can absolutely lose a race in it. Everything in this category is built around one rule: keep the intensity, cut the volume. A taper that removes all fast movement leaves you flat on the start line; a taper that keeps the volume leaves you tired on it.
The shape of a good race week is a last real session five days out, a short sharpening session three days out, and nothing but movement and mobility after that. Recovery sessions are also the right home for the work you never get around to in a build phase: ninety-second hip flexor holds, ankle range, thoracic rotation.
Recovery is not a synonym for doing nothing. The mobility and heat protocols here have specific targets and specific doses, and the notes say plainly where the evidence is thin. Do not use a sauna to cut weight in race week, and do not use race week to try one last hard session.
